Serving those who served our Country
Home
Hello! Welcome to The National Cemetery. The aim of this charity is to set up and maintain thereafter a National Cemetery for the Armed Forces that have so honourably served our nation. The National Cemetery will be available for all the members of our Armed Forces (and their
dependants) past, present and future, even those who have thankfully not been called on to pay the ultimate price. It will be available for those who are currently serving in our Armed Forces and our Veterans also.
This Nation and its people owe them a debt of honour. We will attempt to rectify this with your help
and assistance. Every person at rest in the National Cemetery will have his or her own story to tell and their obituary will be available in our Hall of Honour. In addition we will have in our Hall of Honour the names and obituaries of members of the Armed Forces who have passed away but who are not at rest in the National Cemetery. We believe they all have a story to tell and if their loved ones wish their name and story remembered, we would make that possible.
This is a large but worthy project which requires a little explaining in order to fully understand the concept. Therefore we suggest you visit the 'Reasons for a National Cemetery' page of this web site as well as the 'FAQ' page. This will help you get a better understanding of what exactly our project is about.
Perhaps we can give today's youth real heroes to respect and aspire to instead of some of the more bizarre celebrities they seem to admire today. We intend to do this by encouraging visits by school and other youth groups to the National Cemetery as well as interactive guided virtual tours and live broadcasts on the Internet. We intend to play as large a part as we possibly can in educating the youth of tomorrow about real heroes of today.
The National Cemetery is about people like Bill, a Second World War Veteran, who was recently seen trying to maintain the grave of his old comrade in arms Tom, whose final resting place was in a sad state of repair. Bill said
''It's a great shame that Tom's grave is over-run with weeds and left abandoned in a corner. I do what I can to
look after it these days but I am getting old. Tom served this country for years
and his memory and remains deserve better from those he served. I suppose my
fate will be the same as his''.
The National Cemetery is about people like Eileen Nearne, who bravely served as a member of the highly secret Special Operations Executive (SOE) during WWII and who recently died forgotten and alone. Thankfully the Royal British Legion stepped in and ensured she received the funeral she deserved.
The National Cemetery is about the people of this country providing a special place of honour, love, and care for those at rest there. We owe them this duty of care and remembrance - establishing a place of national importance for them to rest eternally can best provide this. We will treasure any donations we are lucky enough to receive and will ensure that not a single penny is wasted. Almost 100% of every donation kindly received will be used to achieve our ambition of having a National Cemetery worthy of the Nation and those at rest there.
Please be aware that this website and will be constantly up-graded and developed. The best way this site can be described is
'a continuing work in progress' which will be polished constantly.
Can we also say that we have tried to give as much information as we can about the National Cemetery on this website. Should you have any further questions about any aspects of the National Cemetery we would be pleased to answer them and, if appropriate, we will place them on the FAQ page for all to see.
Please use the contacts page and we will reply to your enquiry.
